Part-time Youth Art Therapy Staff Job Description

Reports To: Prodigal Pottery Executive Director

The part-time Youth Art Therapy Staff will report to the Prodigal Pottery Executive Director. In addition, the Youth Art Therapy staff will report to the Youth Operations Director regarding medicaid billing.

Job Overview

The Youth Art Therapy Staff is a part-time, contract labor position offering a maximum of 14 hours/week during summer months, and a maximum of 8 hours/week during the school year. The Youth Art Therapy Staff will work exclusively with the King’s Home Youth ranging in age from 10-18 providing Art classes focusing on emotional growth through the practice of the arts. During summer months, the Youth Art Therapy staff will lead and plan one hour art sessions for different groups of King’s Home Youth (8-10 youth per class) totaling 9 classes per week. Scheduling of classes will be based on Youth Art Therapy Staff’s schedule. During the school year, the Youth Art Therapy staff will lead and plan 3-5 one hour class sessions per week. This position pays $10/hour.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan all one hour Art Therapy sessions based on needs of individual groups.

  • Lead and direct all one hour Art Therapy sessions during designated classes each week.

  • Spend one plus hour per week outside of classes reporting on each session and individual youth’s development. Fill out reports to bill medicaid for Art Therapy sessions.

  • Keep Art Therapy studio clean and organized, and order and stock necessary supplies for planned classes.

  • Set up for and break down for all sessions.

  • Check in weekly with Prodigal Pottery Executive Director to discuss planned therapy sessions and report on how sessions are going.

  • Experience and desire to work with youth, ages 10-18

  • Heart for ministry with youth and experience in relational ministry

  • Organizational skills

  • Leadership skills

  • Self starter who requires to little to no direction once fully trained

  • Quality time management

  • Enthusiasm and empathy for those in need
